CARING
FOR NATURAL STONE
Natural stone requires very little maintenance, however there are a few simple
tasks which one should endeavor to follow.
- You should seek to clean your
surface with a damp cloth on a regular basis, particularly on the surface most commonly used, such as the sink and hotplate area of your bench.
- Cutting and chopping foods
(within reason) on your bench should not scratch nor chip your bench top, but
will blunt your knives quickly. A chopping board is most desirable.
- The placing of hot saucepans,
(that is directly off the stove) is not advisable, however warm
substances placed on the bench area will not cause any problems.
- Avoid the use of abrasive
cleaners and detergents not recommended by manufacturers for natural stone.
Careful reading of the contents attached behind the bottles is essential.
The use of white vinegar or mentholated spirits is more than
sufficient to clean your stone.
- Granite and particularly marble
are porous products, which have a tendency to stain if care is not taken.
Though they are both sealed upon dispatch from our factory, the water
proof sealer is only protective 70 – 80%. Be mindful therefore of
liquid/spirit based products such as wine, fruits, juices and other
products, which if spilled onto the surface, may penetrate into the stone
leaving you with a stain which cannot be buffed out. Simply, should such a
stain be eminent , be sure to wipe off as soon as possible.
- For your comfort and security,
Parthenon Marble has for your purchase both polishing products and water
proof sealers, for you to use at your disposal and convenience.
We take this opportunity to
congratulate you on your purchase of natural stone
and wish you many years of
enjoyment and use.
